Role Descriptions
- SALES ASSOCIATE (CLERK on the sales floor):
Provide warm, enthusiastic, and helpful customer service by assisting customers with finding and selecting products for their projects. Requires working knowledge of at least one of these areas: electrical, plumbing, paint, screen repair, hand and power tools, key cutting, glass cutting, hardware (screws, anchors, nails), basic construction techniques, woodworking. Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and assist with light stocking of shelves as needed. People retired from one of the trades (plumbing, electrical, general contracting, etc.) or people with lots of DIY home improvement experience tend to thrive in this role. - CASHIER:
Provide friendly point-of-sale (POS) retail duties including customer service, rewards member services, returns, counting back change, Soda Steam CO2 exchanges, and answering the phone. May also help with stocking candy and drinks at the front counter. Must be able to lift 20lb. and stand for extended periods on an anti-fatigue mat (stools also provided). No knowledge of hardware products necessary. - GARDEN CENTER ASSOCIATE (outdoors):
Assist customers with their gardening needs by providing friendly advice on plant selection and plant health. Maintains the garden center by operating the cash register (point-of-sale computer), stocking plant and soil inventory, creating attractive outside displays, completing sales transactions, loading soil into customer’s vehicles, and completing propane tank exchanges. Requires Pacific Northwest gardening and botanical knowledge of various plants and their care requirements such as watering, weeding, pruning, and identifying pests and diseases. Must be able to lift and load 35lb. bags of compost, soil, and other amendments. Must be comfortable working outdoors in the heat, rain, shine, or snow (there is a shelter). - BLUE TEAM (freight):
Our “Blue Team” members are part-time employees who stock shelves and put away freight on Tuesdays and Fridays. “Blue Team” duties require no experience, but they must be detail oriented, able to lift 30 lbs., push a trolley cart, use a step stool to reach higher shelves, and crouch down and bend to reach lower shelves. - K-LIST:
Our “K-List” duties require minimal experience, but a strong work ethic and a willingness to help out wherever needed. Duties include unloading freight, organizing inventory, stocking shelves, general store cleaning (sweeping, mopping, wiping down shelves, dusting inventory), lifting and loading heavy bags of soil and concrete, and providing customer service with making keys and cutting glass, wire, chain, and screen. Must be able to lift and load 60lb. bags of sand/cement. Willingness to earn a forklift certification and available to work on Monday or Thursday evenings until 8:00 p.m. to unload the pallets off the freight truck and help receive shipments. Willingness to be trained on how to program car keys, rekey locks, rescreen windows/doors, and/or sharpen tools.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- K-List employees must have a valid driver’s license in order to drive a forklift.
- We typically hire in the spring and almost never hire seasonal or summer workers.
- We try to hire full-time employees as much as possible, and offer health insurance, dental insurance, and a matching retirement plan.
- Shifts are either 8:00-4:30 or 10:30-7:00 on Mondays-Saturdays. Shifts on Sundays are 9:00-6:00.
- All employees are expected to work at least one of the two weekend days.
